Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation | Review

Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is a revolutionary new foundation that's waterproof, sweat-resistant, and custom-built for your skin. It provides a natural glow finish and an invisible mesh on the skin so you can see your own natural complexion in real life and on camera.

If you're looking for a foundation that looks like it was applied by a makeup artist, then this post is for you!

On Saturday, May 26, house of Dior, an iconic fashion and beauty giant hosted its Cruise 2019 fashion show in Chantilly, France, during which they casually unveiled a brand new Backstage line you guessed it right -  inspired by the makeup essentials needed to look runway-ready.

The Backstage collection includes foundation, concealer, blush, eyeshadow, and more that are meant to be "totally ready for anything". Dior's Backstage foundation claims to be "the world's first foundation that makes you feel like a celebrity." It contains "80% of your skin's natural moisture" and is designed for all skin types, according to Dior.

In this review, I'll be talking about its formula and how it works on the skin. I'll also give you my overall thoughts on it and whether or not I would recommend it to others. So let's get started!

About the product

Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation was developed by Dior's in-house makeup artists, who know that you can't walk out of the house without looking like a million bucks. The lightweight formula gives your skin a polished finish while looking and feeling like you're not wearing any makeup at all.

There are 40 shades of Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation

The foundation is made with soft-focus powders to blur imperfections and give you an airbrushed look without any effort, so even if you're not used to wearing foundation, you'll look like a pro with your new favorite product!

Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is one of the most luxurious foundations I have used. It offers a wide variety of shades to choose from, 16 intensities, and 6 undertones.

C=Cool

N=Neutral

W=Warm

CR=Cool Rosy

WP=Warm Peach

WO=Warm Olive

With 40 shades in total, there's almost guaranteed to be one that matches your skin tone.

Claims: Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is a revolutionary new foundation that's waterproof, sweat-resistant, and custom-built for your skin. It provides a natural glow finish and an invisible mesh on the skin so you can see your own natural complexion in real life and on camera.

This formula resists workout sessions, water, extreme temperatures, humid climate, and more—so you get perfect coverage no matter where you are.

Packaging: Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation comes in a thin-spout plastic tube. You need to squeeze the bottle to get the foundation out.  It also comes with a plastic silver cap.

I love this packaging because it’s shatterproof and very easy to shake keeping the foundation well-mixed. The packaging is meant to be portable and travel-friendly (which I like) while still looking classic. The material is light and feels luxurious, with a matte finish. I usually prefer foundations in a glass bottle with a pump because it's less messy, but the dropper works fine as long as you keep it clean.

Price: 40 USD (for 50 ml / 1.6 fl. oz); Made in France.

Given that the majority of foundations are 30ml/ 1fl.oz. Although the bottle appears to be equally as little as other foundation bottles, you actually get a lot more product for your money!

I wear shade 1CR - Cool Rosy.

My Skin: Combination to oily

Formula: This foundation has the ideal texture—neither it's runny nor creamy, the consistency is just right.

This foundation is a dream. It has a distinctive scent that I'm personally obsessed with—it reminds me of my signature perfume, Miss Dior. However, if you have a sensitive nose, I would recommend going for a sample first before committing to a full-size product. As soon as the product is absorbed into the skin, the aroma disappears. This foundation did not oxidize or irritate my skin.

The coverage is medium to full and buildable to almost full coverage with one layer (if you are looking for something really heavy-duty). The finish is semi-matte/natural glowy/dewy - somewhere between satin and matte but not drying at all! I love how it looks on my skin when set with powder; it just makes my skin look healthy and glowing.

Application:  I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this foundation.

I'm a fan of Dior's Face & Body foundations, but I thought that their version for the face would be too thick and heavy for my taste. But after giving it a try, I was quite impressed!

It's lightweight and dries down relatively fast, which is why I would advise you to build it up gradually. It gives you that flawless natural velvety-matte finish and layers incredibly well. You may quickly transition from a very sheer coverage (applied in pea-sized amounts with your fingers) to full-on glam in 1, 2, or 3 layers. Of course, if you want ultimate coverage, it is best to use a densely packed synthetic brush or sponge (the latter will absorb more product).

Dior Backstage Foundation is a gorgeous foundation that provides light, medium, or full coverage, depending on how you apply it.

For light coverage:

-Apply Face & Body Foundation by patting gently with your fingers and massaging into the face.

For medium coverage:

-Layer 2 applications each time stretching the foundation using the light coverage brush from the inside of the face towards the outside.

For perfect coverage:

-Apply up to 3 foundation coats using tiny, circular motions.

I do advise limiting yourself to no more than 2 layers; 3 layers may be a bit too much.

Wear: I love this foundation. It's not the most hydrating formula out there, but it definitely doesn't dry my skin out. It has a velvety texture that blends easily, and it feels light on the skin. I use a little powder on my nose and forehead where it's oilier, but I don't think someone with normal or dry skin would even need any powder. I also love how this formula works with both powder and cream products—I've been using cream bronzers/blushes/highlighters lately and none of them disrupts or lifts my base.

My skin looks airbrushed in person and in photos, which is something I never thought I'd be able to say about myself! This product evens out my skin tone while still showing off its natural texture—it's amazing!

I'm going to be honest: I have a lot of foundation options in my beauty arsenal. So when I say that Dior Backstage Foundation is my absolute favorite, it's not just because it's new and exciting—it's because it truly is amazing.

Whenever I wear this foundation, I receive a lot of compliments on my skin. It has almost a matte finish but it really does look airbrushed in person and in photos! This is partly due to its light-reflective qualities—you can actually see an outline of your face when you're looking at yourself in the mirror.

However, if you tend to get a lot of texture on your face (which is common for me), I would recommend proper exfoliation before applying this foundation. Otherwise, it might stick to dry patches as the day goes on!

The wearing duration is excellent; I can leave this on all day without it separating or being patchy.  Actually, I love how it looks on me after 1-2 hours, since it becomes a touch more glowy (alternatively, you can set it with powder and it will remain matte).

Who will like it: this is one of those products that I just cannot stop talking about and recommending to everyone. You will fall in love with Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation if you prefer medium coverage, skin-like, matte foundations that make your skin look like a filter while still appearing very natural. This type of product will work best for someone with normal, normal-dry, combination-dry, combination, and even oily skin. If you have dry skin, then I would recommend going for slightly more hydrating skincare to avoid the potential feel of "tight" skin. If you are extremely dry or too oily, I do not think that you will enjoy this formula. It's fantastic to know that this product will look beautiful on women of various ages and colors!

I've been using this foundation almost every day since receiving it, and I've been getting so many compliments on how great my makeup looks! It's really helped me build up my confidence over the past few weeks as well—and isn't that what makeup is supposed to do?

Verdict

Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is a great foundation for those looking for a natural matte finish. It applies easily, makes your skin look velvety smooth, and wears all day long. It is also a very versatile foundation that can be adjusted to your desired coverage. Whether you are looking for a light, medium, or full-coverage foundation, the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is a great option.

Its weightless, oil-free formula absorbs quickly and dries down to stay put all day. A little goes a long way—all you need is about one pump for your whole face.

If you love the idea of "looking like a glamour shoot," I highly recommend the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation. You can really change the level of coverage by using either more or less product, and it goes on beautifully with either a brush or a beauty sponge. Whether you have oily or dry skin, this will be your new favorite foundation.

Overall, the Dior Backstage Foundation is one of my top favorite foundations for my oily/combo skin. The product is versatile, wears well, and gives me a skin-like, natural, velvety finish when paired with my regular primers and powders. This is one of my favorite foundations, and I use it all the time!
